Shanghai Releases Implementation Plan for Five-Year Action Plan to Deeply Advance People-Centered New Urbanization Strategy
Shanghai‘s five-year urbanization plan prioritizes transportation: enhancing urban-rural transit networks, targeting 1,000+ km of rail transit by 2028, boosting cross-regional Yangtze River Delta connectivity, advancing smart transportation and digital upgrades to optimize efficiency and travel convenience.
Shanghai recently released the "Implementation Plan for the Five-Year Action Plan to Deeply Implement the People-Centered New Urbanization Strategy," with transportation-related measures being particularly crucial. These include enhancing urban comprehensive carrying capacity and advancing the green transportation system.
The plan proposes to improve the integrated transportation network covering urban and rural areas, extend urban infrastructure to rural regions, and prioritize the development of regional railways to expand rail transit coverage. By the end of 2028, Shanghai aims to exceed 1,000 kilometers in operational rail transit mileage, providing residents with more convenient travel options.
In the Yangtze River Delta region, Shanghai will promote cross-regional transportation connectivity and strengthen coordinated development of interprovincial highways and rail transit networks to further integrate with neighboring cities.
To enhance transportation system capacity, the city will also intensify smart city development, advance digital transformation in transportation, optimize traffic information interconnectivity, and improve management efficiency.
