On February 19, Korea Road Corporation President Ham Jin-kyu delivered a welcoming speech at the National Assembly Building during the "National Citizens' Forum on Advancing Traffic Safety."
The National Assembly (led by Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Maeng Seong-gyu) and Korea Road Corporation (CEO Ham Jin-kyu) co-hosted the forum on February 19 at the National Assembly Building to discuss measures to achieve the target of reducing traffic accident fatalities by 50% by 2027 ([Current Administration's 120 Major National Projects] "Reduce annual traffic fatalities by 50% (from 2,551 in 2023 to 1,600 by 2027")).
Korea Road Corporation's Goal
"Reduce highway traffic fatality rate to 1.20 per 10 billin km by 2027 (from 1.50 per 10 billion km in 2023)."
The forum brought together parliamentarians, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Police Agency, and other transportation experts to explore legal and institutional reforms for enhancing traffic safety.

Driver Behavior Reduction
Korea Road Corporation emphasized the need to address driver-related factors (drowsiness, speeding, inattention, seatbelt non-use) responsible for 95% of highway fatalities in 2024 through stricter law enforcement and penalties.
Penalty Reform
The corporation highlighted that current fines and penalties in Korea are significantly lower than those in advanced nations, calling for realistic penalty levels to improve safe driving culture.
